I have a few photos of actors and actresses from the '20s, and I wondered how can you tell if they are silver gelatin pics?

First of all, these photos are modern reprints or they really are vintage prints? If they are modern reprints, it is possible that the pictures could be really good offset. Best way to say it is a magnifying glass and look for rosette pattern when you see the photo like the picture from this link, you are there with an offset printing http://marvin.mrtoads.com/screen_printing_limits.html On the other hand, if the picture is fairly continuous, or if the image has a slight grain of salt and pepper it, then you are probably dealing with silver gelatin. Although there are many other printing on silver gelatin silver is by far the most popular.
